Last show for the year at Lancefield
Today we braved the hot weather for a day of showing at Lancefield Kennel Club, coming out on what is a rare occasion these days, for the pleasure of showing under Finnish Judge Mrs L Finne, who is well respected as a knowledgable judge of Finnish Lapphunds in its native country.
We were thrilled that Louis (Supreme Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RE HSAs (Imp USA) was awarded her Best of Breed from an entry of 16 (3 absent), with his daughter Pink (CH Janoby Frilly Nickers) earning the RUBOB.
Reserves went to our Emmi (Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD RA JD HT (Imp Fin) and her son Lumi (Ch Armahani Diamond Davvir CCD (AI)). It was great to see Lumi again, as I hadn't seen him in almost half a year. What a handsome boy he is turning into.

Rally passes for Myrre, Emmi and Louis
Another performance weekend for the Armahani kids.
Firstly was the wonderful Myrre (Armahani Crystal Ciegus CD JD HT), at the Sunshine Coast's Obedience club's obdience and rally trials with owner and handler Anne last night. There she made her first attempt at Open level obedience, and although DQing on the retrieve over the jump, had an absolutely brilliant go (I saw the video evidence to prove it!), so I'm sure it won't be long till she's raking in the passes at that level. She then followed with her first go at rally, earning her first Rally Novice qualification.
Today it was her parents turn, with Emmi and Louis both at Croydon & District Obedience Club's trial. Emmi earned her first Rally Excellent A pass ..... just - the heat was a little much for her. While Louis earned his first double toward his RAE title with passes in Advanced B (with a 2nd place) and Excellent B.

Another Best in Group for Lumi
More winning ways, for the handsome Lumi (Ch Armahani Diamond Davvir CD (AI)) earning another Best in Group and Intermediate in Group, this time at Holbrook Show Society under NSW judge Mrs J Ford. Mrs Ford gave his mother Emmi a Best in Group a couple of years ago, so we do of course think she is a judge with exceptional taste ;-).
This follows on from Lumi earning an Intermediate in Group under Mrs V Morrow (NSW) at the Albury and Border Kennel Club last week.
Lumi is really maturing now, and we're so very proud of how he is doing. Enormous congratulations to Bianca and Clive and thanks for all the work they do with this naughty boy.

Saying goodbye to the Emeralds
And the goodbye's start, with the Emerald babies all starting to head off into their new homes. Luckily only one will be leaving the State, and even she is to return shortly, so we hope to see the Emerald babies around the traps as they grow.
First to leave was Manny, who keeps his "litter name", and is heading home with the Slonim family, where I know he is going to be absolutely adored! Not far behind him was pretty little Shira - now Vaalia or Vaali for short - who goes to live with the Stapleton/How family. Vaali may join us in the show ring here in Victoria on special occasions.
Tomorrow Ellie - now Muffin - will fly out to be with Asmono, and her big Lappie sister Marja. Muffin is co-owned with me, to hopefully have babies of her own one day, and we hope will join her siblings in Victoria before too much longer. She will also hopefully see the show ring on some occasions.
On Wednesday Diego - now Heisenberg - will leave with Diana and Nick, and we wish them every luck with their handsome boy.
Sid - now Phoenix - will stay with me and his mum Kyla, until Michelle picks them up next weekend, and then it will be very quiet at home. Until the next litter of course!!!

Lumi goes Best in Group
Some excellent news, while we're away from the show ring for a while, with the lovely Lumi (Ch Armahani Diamond Davvir CD (AI)) earning Best in Group at the Rock Show Society under NSW judge Mrs P Hall. Lumi has managed a number of Runner up in Groups this year, cracking the big one now he is in the intermediate class. Huge congratulations to Bianca and Clive!
Just last weekend his brother Tahvo (Am Ch & Can Grand Ch Armahani Diamond Davvenasti) finished off his campaign in Canada at the Fort Garry Kennel Club, earning four Group 2nds, a Group 3rd and a Group 4th. Tahvo has had a great run over his time away, his final tally being a RUBIS, 3 Group 1sts, 13 Groups 2nds, 4 Groups 3rds and 4 Group 4ths. Now he is back home in the USA with Kathy and Gene

Taija is Bitch Challenge at the Royal Melbourne Show
It was a relatively quiet Royal, this year for once, with Emmi in season at home and only Louis and Taija on the end of our show lead.
While it wasn't Louis' year this time around, we were very proud of the young Taija (Ch Armahani Crystal Cuovgat) stepping into her mother's footsteps, even signficantly out of coat, to take out a large bitch challenge. Congratulations to BOB winner Sup Ch Theldaroy Anyone Dare To Diffa.
Tahvo (Am Ch & Can Grand Ch Armahani Diamond Davvnasti) continued his winning ways in Canada over the weekend, taking out two Group 2nds (RUBIG) at the Prairie Canine Academy under judges Lee Anne Bateman and Edward MacDonald.
We've had a few good health results over the last few weeks also, with Lumi (Ch Armahani Diamond Davvir CCD (AI)) getting a clear eye certificate as well as excellent hip results of 1/1 and elbow results of 0/0. Kulta, Emmi and Louis have also been DNA cleared for GSD-II or Pompes disease which clears the Amethyst, Crystal and Emerald litters as well.
Meanwhile our Emeralds continue to grow strongly and are our key focus at the moment.

Kulta and Kyla's Emerald babies arrive
It was a very long weekend, as we waited for these previous babies to arrive, but we are very pleased to finally announce that our Emerald litter is here!!
This is a very special litter for our hearts - being a combination of our three at home babies - Kulta, Louis and Emmi. Kulta (Ch Theldaroy Best Treasure CCD RN HT), our first Lappie, and now 10 1/2 years old, is the sire. The dam is our lovely cream princess, Kyla (Ch Armahani Crystal Cearpmat) who is from the litter we had with Emmi and Louis, and co-owned with Michelle Ennor, who is helping to raise these babies for us.
Kyla's due date was Sunday, so we were on edge from Saturday onward. I headed to Michelle's place Sunday morning to play the waiting game. And wait it was, with nothing happening until about 5pm when Kyla showed signs of going into stage 1 labour. And then we waited some more, and some more, and some more.
After a vet visit to check everything was ok, and a decision that we would give her one more overnight before intervening, about 8pm on Monday, she finally started to show indications that things were moving up a level.
At 9pm our fist precious Emerald arrived. And then another at 9.05pm, at 9.20pm, at 9.30pm and at 10pm!!! After waiting all that time they clearly weren't prepared to waste another moment, and I've never experienced a whelping quite like it with one pup after another making their appearance in such quick succession!
Our final count is five gorgeous Emeralds! Three boys - all who are domino in colour. And two girls - another domino and our only single black and tan baby.
For photos of the Emeralds see their own page HERE.

New Rally titles for both Emmi and Louis
Another rally-o trial for us today, this time back at the Geelong Obedience Dog Club where we have had some great success in rally in the past. Aftrer a fortnight's rest, a couple of chiropractor sessions, and some evaluation late in the week, I decided to let Louis trial with the lower easy straight jump he needed to do in the rally course, and just watch carefully how he went. So it was back to competing with both my little stars.
First trial of the day, Emmi was on fire in the Advanced ring, acting like an exciteable puppy and having me very nervous that she thought she was back in the agility ring and was going to take off on start! She managed to keep it together (just) though, and managed a nice score of 97 and a 1st place under judge Y Ross. That was her third pass at that level and Rally Advanced title so made her Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD RA JD HT (Imp Fin).
Louis also did a great run, for his first time in the Excellent ring. However, a self correction of his heel position in a left pivot turn had him get a 10 point deduction for a fail of exercise, so his score wasn't as great as would normally expect, but still a nice pass of 86 and 2nd place under judge C Geary.
Second trial of the day Emmi had clearly decided given she had her title she didn't need to impress any more, and did a quite average performance to pull our lowest ever rally score of 78 under judge H Miller, even if it was a pass! That bacon on the ground meant to tempt her was just clearly too irresistible!!! It also wasn't Louis' greatest performance ever, but still not a bad score of 87 and a 1st place under judge Y Ross.
Third trial I decided to give myself a break at the end of the day from trying to learn two courses in 15 minutes and just concentrate on Louis. He did a little better with a score of 91 and another 1st place under judge H Miller. That backwards walking is certainly our trap at the moment, costing us a few points! Most importantly, with his third pass that gave him his Rally Excellent title making him Supreme Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RE HSAs (Imp USA)!!

Emmi earns her first novice agility qualification
We had some great fun today, at the Hastings Obedience Dog Club's agility trial. It's been almost two years since we rocked up at a trial. Although I love agility, I never seem to fit much of it in the busy schedule to get us trial-ready let alone actually competing. The plan was for both Emmi and Louis to be competing, but with Louis still resting after his injury last weekend, it made it a much more relaxing day with Emmi (Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD RN JD HT (Imp Fin) only entered in the Novice Agility class.
Her first run of the day she managed a nice clean run in time, so gained her first AD quallie, with a 4th placing under judge Ms N Janetzki. I almost thought she was going to do it again for her second run, but two jumps from the finish line she just skipped one of the weave poles. Emmi absolutely LOVES the homeward stretch and I think concentrating on weaves so close to the end was a little hard for her because she was making little whimpering noises as she did so LOL!
Third run I had been noting how many of the dogs seemed a little vague after a long day and were doing some silly things, and sure enough Emmi was one of them. She got caught on a course trap that I couldn't call her off on time, and then decided to go and flirt with the judge at one point, giving me a good belly laugh for the end of the day.
It was a lovely time though, and I was super pleased to come away with a Q certificate for our first trial in such a long time.

Tahvo becomes a Canadian Grand Champion and Emmi stars in rally
Big news this weekend, with Tahvo following on from an amazing couple of weeks with three group placements at the Manitoba Canine Association in Canada. On Thursday he went Group 4th under judge Thomas Touzel, on Friday Group 2nd under judge Yvonne Savard, and Sunday Group 3rd under judge Tony Vandendool!
Most importantly, he also gained the final breed points he needed over the weekend to earn his Canadian Grand Championship!! Once the paperwork is confirmed he will be known as Am Ch & Can Grand Ch Armahani Diamond Davvenasti! Enormous congratulations and thanks to his owners Kathy, Linda and Gene, and his handlers and carers in Canada Connie and Trina!
At home, Tahvo's mum Emmi (Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD RN JD HT (Imp Fin)) was strutting her own stuff in the Rally-O ring at the Bendigo Obedience Dog Club's double obedience and rally trial.
This was Emmi's first trial in the Advanced class, and she did a fabulous job, with a score of 96 and a 1st place under judge R Ashman, followed by a score of 94 and 2nd place under judge Y Ross. I was immensely proud of her!
Emmi had to shine alone after Louis turned up injured this morning and I had to withdraw him from his trials. Some enforced rest for him the next couple of weeks, which is easier said than done!!!

Tahvo is awarded Group 4th in Canada
Not to be outdone by his brother, Tahvo (Am Ch & Can Ch Armahani Diamond Davvenasti) also had his opportunity to shine this weekend. He was at the Alberta Kennel Club which I understand is one of the biggest dog shows in Canada.
There under the expert care of his handlers Connie and Trina, he received another group placing to add to his many earned in Canada to date, this time a group 4th, and very excitedly under Swedish/Finnish judge Mr Bo Skalin.
Mr Skalin awarded our Emmi (Tahvo's dam) quite highly at the Melbourne Royal a couple of years back. So it is lovely to see her son also doing well under him.
Tahvo is currently the number 1 ranked Finnish Lapphund in Canada, and this only cements his position further. Congratulations to owners Linda, Gene and Kathy!

Lumi earns another Runner up Best in Group
More good news for Lumi (Ch Armahani Diamond Davvir CCD (AI)) today. Showing at the Wagga Wagga All Breeds Kennel Club Championship Show, he was awarded Runner Up in Group (Group 2nd) under South Australian judge Mr G Love.
This is Lumi's third Runner Up in Group win, and he's not yet out of the Junior class. So we are just super proud of this handsome lad.
At home the news was a little different, with puppy news descending on Armahani rather than the usual show and performance news. We're very pleased to announce that our Emerald litter will be born in early September to Kyla (Ch Armahani Crystal Cearpmat) and Kulta (Ch Theldaroy Best Treasure CCD RN HT). More information can be found on our Future Treasure page.

Dolce earns his first rally advanced qualification
It's been weekends for the boys lately! This time is was Dolce's (Ch Armahani Crystal Caibmat RN) turn, in the Rally Advanced ring for the first time in Canberra. For those new to handling performance dogs, that first time without the lead on can be rather daunting! So we are super proud of Shareen and Dolce being brave enough to take that step.
And even more proud to hear how well he did, earning his first RA qualification under judge Ms S Field with a nice score of 83!
Super work!!

Lumi earns his Community Companion Dog title
Finally, after earning his first two passes earlier this year, it was Lumi's (Ch Armahani Diamond Davvir (AI)) turn to put some letters on the back end of his name as well!
Trialing in obedience at the Albury and Border Kennel Club's obedience trial, under judge Mr D Hutson, Lumi earned his third CCD pass with a third place to boot.
This gives Lumi his Community Companion Dog (CCD) title. Way to go Lumi and Bianca!
So proud to see how well the Armahani kids have been doing in the performance rings this year. Lumi is the fifth to put some extra letters on the back end of his name so far in 2013!!

As only the second specialty championship show in Australia for our breed, to date, it was another very special ocasion and a great time to catch up with wonderful friends across the country.
There were a number of Armahani kids in attendance, and as our judge provided FCI style critiques and gradings for all exhibits, it was opportunity not to be missed. Then in the Australia Cup challenge I had to be thrilled when our judge selected out as her Victorian team Louis, Emmi, Quinn and Lumi (Armahani Diamond Davvir) .... and not only that we went on to win the trophy for Victoria!!!
Highlights for the day (other than the obvious RUBISS ;-)):
Well taking RDCC with the old boy was pretty special! Kulta is lucky to come out once a year these days, and for those who ever saw how incredibly painful it was showing him in his younger days (he hated it!!!), you'd have to know what a thrill it is when he comes out, has a ball being a show dog, and then does so well!
Looking up the challenge bitch line up and seeing Louis' daughters from three different litters in Open, Aus Bred and State Bred position (Pink, Taija and Quinn) - all three of who went on to get their class in show (with Pink BISS of course)
Showing Kirra (Armahani Crystal Cumma) to Neuter in Show (from 10 entered) - first time in the show ring, with next to no training and what a complete star this cheeky girl was and SOOOOOOO much fun to show. Think I might have to steal her again!
Watching junior handler extraordinaire Maddy Nyp, take in Emmi and Louis for property classes, and keep walking out with ribbons! She did sooooo well with them and it was just a pleasure to see them shine under her capable hands.
Most importantly, sharing good times with good friends, and having the pleasure of seeing so many Armahani kids out and about at the same time. Can't wait till the next time!
There were a number of Armahani kids in attendance, and as our judge provided FCI style critiques and gradings for all exhibits, it was opportunity not to be missed. Our big winners for the day were Emmi (Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD RN JD HT (Imp Fnl)) earning Reserve Bitch Challenge and Runner Up Best in Show, Kulta (Ch Theldaroy Best Treasure CCD RN HT), earning Reserve Dog Challenge, Taija (Ch Armahani Crystal Cuovgat), earning Best Australian Bred in Show, and Kirra (Armahani Crystal Cumma) earning Best Neuter in Show.

Myrre earns her CD title and another Group 2nd for Tahvo in Canada
We're very pleased to celebrate another performance title amongst the Armahani kids, with Myrre at the State Obedience Trials in Queensland this weekend, gaining her third novice pass and a third place under Queensland judge Mrs D Stutz with a score of 177. That gives my precious little "nutter" her Companion Dog title and makes her Armahani Crystal Ciegus CD JD HT.
The next day she followed it up with another pass under Victorian judge Mrs T Knox of 192 points and a forth place. Which gave her a total score over the two days of 369 and a second place in Novice for the State trial.
Huge congratulations to owner and handler Anne who does so well with this crazy child. Myrre, daughter of Emmi and Louis, was always the one I had pinned as showing the most potential for performance sports, and it is nice to see her shining!
In Canada, Tahvo (Am & Can Ch Armahani Diamond Davvenasti) was back out in the show ring, and we were very proud to learn he gained another Group 2 (Runner Up Best in Group)! Congratulations Kathy, Gene, Linda, Connie and Trina!

Veikko earns her HT title
The success continues! This time it was Veikko's time to shine, with owner Shell Gurney, out herding for the day.
I'm super proud to announce that she earned her second herding test pass under S Fedoryschyn at the Dogs NSW Spoting Committee's herding trial.
This gives Veikko her HT title, the first I'm sure of many performance titles in her future, and she will now be known as Ch Armahani Diamond Dansut HT (AI)

Huge success for the Armahani kids while I was on holiday
I've been away over the last couple of weeks, on holiday enjoying the sun and sea while my dogs enjoyed some grandma and grandpa spoiling. But while I was away the Armahani kids were out in force, and I cam home last night to plenty of exciting news.

Immensely proud and so pleased for owners Kathy, Gene and Linda and his handlers Connie and Trina in Canada.
In Australia, his brother Lumi (Armahani Diamond Davvir), not to be outdone, this weekend earned himself a Runner Up Best in Group under judge Mr W Burton at the Parkes Kennel Club's Championship Show, followng up with Junior in Show under general specials judge Mr B Marquette. He also finished the weekend with a new title, earning his Australian Championship.

Rally sucess for Emmi and Louis and herding success for Myrre
It was Emmi and Louis' turn in the rally obedience ring this weekend at the Geelong Obedience Dog Club's triple header. Six trial runs made for a rather long and tiring day!
But I'm super pleased how they went, with awesome results for both of them, bringing home new titles as well as some pretty ribbons.
Emmi competed in Novice, earning her third pass and RN title at the first trial of the morning with a lovely score of 94 and 2nd place under judge Mrs D Ayton. She followed it up with a score of 91 under judge Mr M Tyler, and finally an awsome score of 99 and another 2nd place under judge Ms D Howard.
Louis was also a star, competing in Advanced, and also gaining his RA title at the first trial with a score of 99 and 2nd place under judge Mrs D Howard, followed by scores of 96 and 1st place under Mrs D Ayton and 94 and 2nd place under Mr M Tyler.
We got home to the fantastic news that their daughter Myrre had earned her Herding Instinct Certificate and two Herding Test passes at the Queensland Herding Association's herding trial, gaining her HT title. She will know be known as Armahani Crystal Ciegus JD HT! Well done Anne!!

Semen arrives from Finland
It's been over a year now that Emmi was pregnant with the Diamonds when it suddenly hit me that this was it, her last litter, my last opportunity to match her with some nice boys to ensure her blood lines were around in my breeding program for a long time to come. It is no secret how I feel about Emmi, and what I believe about her type and quality! I suddenly faced the realisation that any breeding I did in the future would only be further away from her and there was no way to ever link her back in generations down the track if I wanted.
With my boys this is never a consideration, as making sure I have frozen their semen for if I need in the future is something I try to always do. And so it was with this thought that I approached Emmi's "first mum" and owner of her highly successful brother Eppu (Multi Ch Lumiturpa Eppu), Johanna Ollila, to see what she thought of the idea of me collecting from Eppu. She immediately replied with "I love that idea." Literally a couple of weeks later, and before I had even thought to organise anything I got an enthusiastic message saying it had all been done and results were good.
Well I had a momentary panic at that point, given the complicated nature of import into Australia and all the i's that need to be dotted and t's that need to be crossed with various forms of testing. But I should have known that Johanna, having done this for me before, would have been all prepared for that.
So here I was with semen ready to transport. I had been chatting with a friend about saving transport costs by importing semen from a few boys together, and so rather than just ship it individually, I decided to wait while we both shopped around for a "bulk" shipment to bring in.
I decided for myself on another four lovely boys, and have been spending the last 12 months organising everything. Today I welcomed not only Eppu, but Tiko (Multi Ch Hiidenlahden Tiko), Viksu (Multi Ch Petäjämaan Viksu), Konsta (Multi Ch Viksalan Condor) and Arttu (Multi Ch Lecibsin Harto) into the country ...... well their genes anyway! More information on these boys, and some of the history behind me choosing them, can be found on my SEMEN page, with individual pages to be written once I get a chance.
I can't thank the five owners (Johanna Ollila, Minna-Mari Posti, Pirjo Kivijärvi, Seija Piipponen and Jukka Kuusisto) enough for all of the hard work they went to to help me out. The selflessness of all of the wonderful people in Finland and around the world who share in our dreams and make them come true, just always astounds me. I hope that each of these boys will contribute lovely pups to the Australian Lappie gene pool in the future. Being patient until that day comes will be the hard bit!

Tahvo at the Canadian specialty and herding success for Louis
This morning I received the lovely news that Tahvo (Am Ch Armahani Diamond Davvenasti (AI) while attending the Finnish Lapphund Club of Canada's specialty show, had been awarded Winner's Dog, First Award of Merit and 1st in the Juvenile Sweeps. Huge congratulations to Linda, Kathy and Gene! This gives Tahvo his first points toward his Canadian Championship. He will be staying in Canada for a few months to do some showing up there and we wish him and his handlers Connie and Trina all the best of luck with him.
For myself, it was another herding trial run by the Victorian Herding Association with Louis (Supreme Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN HSAs (Imp USA)). ANKC herding rules allow dogs to continue to compete at level, even when qualified, so it is a great chance to keep learning and gaining experience in the herding arena. We came away with two more qualifications at Herding Started A (Sheep) with scores of 95 under Tasmanian judge A Bosco, and 80 under Victorian judge J Clarke. Most importantly, although we had some really challenging moments, they were great trials for both of us to learn and gain confidence on.

Herding and rally success for some of the Armahani kids
While we were busy this weekend helping on a breed stand at the Dog Lover's Show, our babies in NSW, and their owner's, were out doing us proud.
Firstly yesterday in Canberra, both Mischa (Ch & Neut Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bilaidit) and Dolce (Ch Armahani Crystal Caibmat) were having fun in the Rally-Obedience ring with owner Shareen. We were very proud to hear the news that Mischa came away from the day with two passes in Rally Novice of scores of 88 and 90, which earned her RN title! And Dolce earned his first Rally Novice pass with a score of 83, with I'm sure more to come in future. Very proud of these kids.
Then today, Mischa and Dolce joined Veikko (Ch Armahani Diamond Dansut (AI)), along with owner Shell and a a bunch of other Lappies for the Working Dog Club of NSW herding trial. Very pleased to announce that both Mischa and Dolce earned their Herding Instinct Certificate, while Veikko gained her first Herding Test pass and first leg toward her HT title. Way to go guys!

Louis earns his HSAs title
We were out herding again today with Louis (Supreme Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA)) , this time at the Australian Shepherd Club of Victoria's Open Herding trial.
In only his third trial, Louis earned his third pass under Judge Mr G Cunningham (Vic) with a qualifying score of 85, a third place, and, importantly, earning him his Herding Started A (Sheep) title!!
I'm so very very thrilled to achieve this with my beautiful baby boy. ANKC herding is not exactly suited to the Lappie style, and it has been quite the work to get where we are with some frustration at times. But I am amazed and so happy with how he is doing, and feeling lots of enthusiasm to keep at it.
Our course, Louis needs to keep me humble. And he did that in our forth trial! A brain sneeze on the rules had me completely messing up and I withdrew him part way through, sure he just wasn't working until I looked at the video evidence afterward and saw just how much of a hindrance I can be to his success!!! Always the way!

Fun at the FLCV/FLCNSW Border Challenge
What a fabulous weekend we had away at the Finnish Lapphund Club of NSW and Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria's Border Challenge at the three day Deniliquin Kennel Club's shows in Albury) with huge thanks to that club for all of their support. We had over 40 entries each day, so it was a fabulously fun time!
Day 1 under NSW judge Mrs B Stepkovitch saw Louis (Supreme Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA)) earning the Dog Challenge, with his daughter Quinn (Ch Kalevi Cheri Flora HT) going BOB. We also had some excitement watching the Armahani babies in action, with a particular highlight being Dolce (Ch Armahani Crystal Caibmat) winning his very competitive class. Lumi (Armahani Diamond Davvir (AI)) also came first in his class, with Ahti (Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bihci HT) third in the open dog class. Lahti (Ch Armahani Amthyst Apina) was out with me again, earning Best Neuter of Breed, going on to get Best Neuter of Group and then Best Neuter of Show! What a star!!
Day two Louis was the reserve dog challenge, and then Runner Up Best of Breed against Quinn who had again earned the bitch challenge. Lumi again won his class, and Ahti was again placed third in his. But this time the highlight was little Veikko (Ch Armahani Diamond Dansut (AI)) who isn't particularly enjoying her time in the ring at the moment, but pulled out all stops to win an incredibly competitive junior bitch class, and went on to win Junior in Group!
Day three Louis continued with the reserve and Runner Up of Breed. Emmi (Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD JD HT (Imp Fin)) was the bitch challenge. Lumi was awarded Junior of Breed. Both Ahti and Kyla (Ch Armahani Crystal Cearpmat), who only joined us for the one day, were third in their classes. Lahti was again Neuter of Breed, with her daughter Mischa (Ch & Neuter Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bilaidit) coming behing her in second place, but most importantly earned the final points she needed to earn her Neuter Championship.
Most of all, it was a great fun weekend, spent with lots of Lappie people from both Victoria and NSW, having fun and cheering on each other's dogs. Over the weekend many records were broken with 11 class in groups and 5 class in shows - an outstanding acheivement for the breed.

An exciting weekend for Armahani at the US FL National
The messages of exciting news from the USA kept coming this weekend as the Finnish Lapphund Club of America held their supported entry shows for their National Specialty.
It started on Friday with the phenomenal news that Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex had been awarded to our Tanssija (Armahani Amthyst Aatto) giving her her second major on the way to her title, with her daughter Bindi (Am Ch Calaban's Armahani Rakentaa) going Select Bitch. Not only that, but Select Dog was awarded to 14 month old Tahvo (Am Ch Armahani Diamond Davvenasti) giving him a five point major toward his grand.
Yesterday, official Specialty day, it was Bindi's turn to shine, being awarded Best of Breed. But her mother was not to be ignored, gaining the Winner's Bitch again, this time giving her the final points she needed for her American Championship! Not to be outdone, Tahvo, was shortlisted to third place amongst the males, and we couldn't be prouder of this special boy!
Then today Tanssija in her first show out of classes was Select Bitch behind our Louis' sister Ciowa (Am Ch Ciowa des Chevaloupsgreg) who was the Select Bitch at yesterday's show.
Huge congratulations to Kit Brillinger, owner of Tanssija, Bindi and Ciowa. And to Kathy Knapp, Gene Hayes and Linda Marden, owners of Tahvo. As well as the breeders and owners of all the other winners over the weekend!

Veikko earns her herding instinct certificate
It must have been the weekend for herding success. Today Louis and I were spending the day post our herding trial, learning more at a much awaited clinic by Canadian trainer Lynn Leach. While in Sydney, Veikko (Ch Armahani Diamond Danust (AI)) was completing her Herding Instinct Certificate, passing her test under judge Mrs A Baxter (NSW), at the Border Collie Club of NSW's herding trial.
Veikko is having a lot of fun learning about this herding game, and we wish her and owner Shell every success as they continue.

Herding started passes for Louis
It was an amazing, and yet a completely unexpected day today! After a rather frustrating last herding lesson with Louis, where I felt that progress was just not coming as I had been hoping for, I had a chat to one of his trainers who suggested I enter him in a trial as a bit of a tester, to see where we were at and what I still needed to work on.
So today was the day, heading off at the crack of dawn for the Victorian Herding Associations first herding trial of the year. I didn't expect much other than a good dose of humiliation, and was feeling more than a little anxious before we started. There is a big jump from the test levels to trialing, and for Finnish Lapphunds, whose natural herding style is very different to what is required in the trial arena, a tough job indeed.
So you can imagine my thrill when Louis did a really fantastic job and we actually passed our first Herding Started A Course trial, with a not too shabby score of 81 (60 is required for a pass with no more than 50% loss of points for each indvidual component), under judge J Clarke! I'm not sure if I took a breath the whole time, but I do distinctly remember being on the last leg heading down to the pen thinking "OMG, I'd better get this right!". Of course, it then became our worst obstacle as I fussed around trying to remember how to do it correctly!
In the afternoon, we went in for our second trial. It was a bit messier than the morning, which means I suspect Louis had a little bit more fun. But we still manged to get through with a score of 75 under judge K Edwards.
A huge thanks to Karen and Kate at Double K Herding for all of their support and help over the last couple of years! I've always appreciated so much their wilingness and openness to work with the Lappies and accept their unique style (and forgive all the barking!!). It really is hard to believe we've come so far!

Rally success for Emmi and Louis
Time for us to be out and about again! This time we were out at the Obedience, Tracking and Endurance Committee's Easter trials, concentrating on rally-o both yesterday and today.
It's been a little over six months since we last hit the rally-o ring, and given she was in season last time, the first time with Emmi.
I was very pleased with my little stars. Emmi (Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD JD HT (Imp Fnl)) yesterday competed in the Novice class under judge L Piper gained a qualification score of 86 and then today under judge F Brueckner for a score of 89. It wasn't her best performance, and in her post season usual phantom slump it was fairly hard to motivate her, but I was very happy with her picking up today and showing a bit more enthusiasm.
Louis (Supreme Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA)) had his first go in the Advanced class. Yesterday under judge D Howard he managed a score of 89, and then today under D Ayton a score of 94 and a 3rd place in ring. I was very proud of him and he clearly had a lot of fun out in the performance ring again.
All up it was a great weekend, and hopefully we'll get to do it again before too much longer.

Success for Lumi in his first obedience trial
As if he couldn't have made me prouder last week, I was simply blown away to get the news today that Lumi (Armahani Diamond Davvir (AI)) continued to wow, but this time in the obedience ring.
At his first obedience trials, at the Albury and District Kennel Club, he was awarded a qualifying score of 93 in the CCD class yesterday under judge Mr C Gilies (ACT) which placed him 2nd in the ring. He followed it up again today, this time under judge Ms E Temby (ACT) with another qualifying score of 93 and another 2nd place. I believe he was only 1 point off a first place.
Lumi is so young still, and I find it amazing he has done so well at his age. True kudos to co-owner Bianca who works so hard with him, for these outstanding achievements. He truly is a little star in the making.

Lumi goes Runner Up In Group
I got the most exciting phone call this afternoon, from Bianca, who had been showing 13 month old Lumi (Armahani Diamond Davvir (AI)) over the weekend.
Yesterday had given her a big thrill, with the judge Ms R Duffy (NSW) at the Tumbarumba PA&H Society, running Lumi for group, and then later awarding him Junior in Group.
But today he went one better at the Bethungra & Illabo Dog Kennel Club Mr L Butler (NSW), who awarded Lumi his Runner Up in Group (Group 2nd). For such a young lad, this is a phenomenal achievement!
I couldn't be more proud and happy for Bianca, Clive and Lumi and hope the year continues to be an exciting one for this precious boy.

A night with Louis at the Victorian Dog of the Year show
Tonight was a special night with Louis (Supreme Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA)) eligible to complete in the Dogs Victoria Night of Nights in the Dog of the Year 2012 competition!
Although we didn't anticipate it being a night of any winning, it was a very exciting night to be part of, and I'm so very proud of the honour it was to be able to complete. Only dogs having earned a BIS or BISS throughout the year are eligible. It was made extra special with the presence of one of his daughter's Pink (Ch Janoby Frilly Nickers) who was competing in the Puppy of the Year competition, who made it through to the third round.
It was great to dress up, have a couple of glasses of champagne with friends, and even more thrilling, be surprised with a couple of friends turning up unexpectedly from interstate to enjoy the occasion (thanks Shareen and Olivia!!!).
Louis went automatically through his first round, then was knocked out in the second round 2 judges to 1 against a lovely Corgi Pembroke. But it was a joy to attend, and hopefully show how special my boy is.

Having fun at the Canberra Royal show
Of to Canberra Royal for my first time this weekend! It seemed too good an opportunity to pass up to see a few of my babies, and catch up with friends, so Thursday I drove up from Melbourne. I was pretty exhausted when I arrived, but how wonderful it was to call in on Shareen, and give my Dolce (Ch Armahani Crystal Caibmat) and Mishca (Ch & Neut Ch Armahani Bloodstong Bilaidit) very big cuddles! Only to later that night have Veikko (Ch Armahani Diamond Dansut (AI)) arrive in Canberra - also clearly for the sole purpose of giving me cuddles!!
Yesterday was our breed judging day. We had previously had a judge from Swtizerland schedule, however last minute illness mean we had a replacement judge with Ms B Warman from New Zealand. I was very proud when Louis (Supreme Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA)) was awarded her Best of Breed, with Emmi (Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD JD HT (Imp Fin)) her Runner up Best of Breed.
Since judging was so early in the day, and group juging was today, we got to then spend a wonderful relaxing day, which continued into today. It was just fantastic to catch up with friends, meet new ones, and enjoy some time away. As an extra bonus, Janet arrived with Blaez (Armahani Bloodstone Bajann) who I hadn't seen since he left home at 8 weeks of age. Can't thank her enough for giving me the chance to meet this handsome boy again.

A great few days for Mischa
What a few it has been for the beautiful Mischa! Her owner, Shareen, along with a group of other Lappie enthusiasists have been up on the NSW south coat, enjoying some days of showing at the Sapphire Coast Kennel and Obedience Club's shows and trials.
Wednesday I got the lovely news that Mischa (Ch & Neut Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bilaidit) had taken Neuter in Group, one of many that she earned so far.
But today, she thrilled the life out of me, earning her first Rally-O Novice qualification with a lovely score of 93. Not only is it Mishca's first rally trials, it is also her owner Shareen's first go at performance trialing. So I couldn't be bursting any fuller of pride from them both.
I hope it is just the start of a wonderful adventure in performance trialing for them both.

Kyla becomes and Australian Champion and another Best in Group for Louis
It has seemed that this weekend just couldn't get any better, but it appears I was wrong!
Back at Bendigo this morning for the Eaglehawk Kennel Club. There I had the very exciting pleasure of watching Michelle handle Kyla to her last points to become Australian Champion Armahani Crystal Cearpmat!
Kyla is the third champion from our Crystal litter, and Armahani's seventh Australian Champion overall, and we are very proud of her and owner/handler Michelle Ennor.
And then to put the icing on a very delicious cake, Louis went on to once again earn Best in Group, this time under Victorian judge Ms J Keenan. So that makes 11 Best in Groups for him so far. I cannot thank enough his breeder V Valy for allowing him to come to me from France, and for all of the judges who have recognised and awarded him. He just amazes me more and more! We will have a slightly easier show year this year, and try and get back to a few of his performance pursuits, but we still look forward to showing with friends when time allows.

Louis becomes and Australian SUPREME Champion
Today was the day it all came together! Since the Australian Supreme Championship title first became available mid 2012, we've been hoping that Louis would be our first dog to make such an exciting achievement. This title requires not only the 1000 challenge points required for a Grand Championship, but in addition, either 10 BIG or BISS wins under ten different judges, or 3 BIS wins under three different judges.
2012 ended with Louis having earnt his Grand, and 9 BIG wins under his collar. So the last few shows we've been at has seen us with our heart up in our throat somewhere during group judging.
Finally today was the moment, at the Bendigo Kennel Club, where Victorian judge Ms N Renwood bought forward lots of tears by awarding my baby her Best in Group. There was a great cheer ringside, and I was met with hugs of congratulations from friends as I exited the ring (one of whom may have had more tears than me, but we won't mention any names!). It was so very special to share the moment with people who have been along the journey with me.
So I am very very proud to introduce Australian Supreme Champion C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA)! Not just a beautiful Lapphund, but a great show dog, great performance dog, great stud dog, and my absolute baby boy! He's my one in a million!

Best Australian Bred in Group for Kyla
It has been a little while since Kyla (Armahani Crystal Cearpmat) has been out and about in the show ring. But I received a very exited phone call from co-owner Michelle Ennor this evening from the Eaglehawk Kennel Club Championship show in Bendigo.
There, under Victorian judge Ms V Miles, Kyla was awarded Best Australian Bred in Group!

Tahvo becomes and American Champion
We received some absolutely thrilling news this morning, to kick off the year with a bang!! Our gorgeous baby in America, Tahvo (Armahani Diamond Davvenasti), gained his second major, earning the final points he needed for his American Championship!
Tahvo is my very special boy, who I fell completely in love with in the extra few weeks he was here before flying out. Known as Winston in the Diamond litter, out of my beautiful girl Emmi (Aus Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD JD HT (Imp Fin)) and semen from the handsome and late Ressi (Fin Ch & Fin Working Trial Ch Lecibsin Kultakuono), I am so thrilled with how he has been doing. Only 11 months of age, he was pointed out, with his first major under his collar, a couple of months ago, and has just had to wait for another major on offer to finish his title. He sure is turning into one handsome boy!
Huge congratulations to his owners Kathy Knapp, Gene Hayes and Linda Marden, and enormous thanks for looking after him and loving this boy to pieces. And thanks also to Mary Lee, who so successfully handled him to his final win after Kathy was injured.

Emmi is Best in Show at the Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria open show
Today we had the excitement of the Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria's Open Show, judget by D Parker (VIC). I was incredibly proud of how my babies went with Louis (Grand Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA)) going Best Dog, and Emmi (Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD JD HT (Imp Fnl)) Best Bitch, following it up by being awarded Best in Show!
Taija (Ch Armahani Crystal Cuovgat) also had a great show, winning the Australian Bred Bitch class, and then being awarded Australia Bred in Show. And Lahti (Ch Armahani Amethyst Apina) was 1st place in the Neuter Sweepstakes.
While the showing was lots of fun, it was even more special to catch up with friends, and particularly to see two of my babies, Dolce and Mischa down from New South Wales. It was the first time we have managed to get some photos of Lahti, her daughter Mischa and son Ahti together, and what a handsome family they make (photos by G Brassington below).

Classes in group for Louis and his daughter Quinn and Mischa becomes a Neuter Champion
Wins are nice, but they are much better when shared! So we were thrilled today, showing at the Sovereign City Kennel Club, when judge Mrs A Collyer firstly shortlisted Louis (Grand Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA)) down to her final four for group, then awarded his daugher Quinn (Ch Kalevi Cheri Flora) Junior in Group, and followed it up by awarding Louis Open in Group.
Quinn is co-owned by breeders S & D Ewenson, and her handler Mel Scriven, and has been enjoying a number of class in group wins lately, so it was pretty special to get to share one of them today!
Then I returned home to hear the exciting news that Mischa (Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bilaidit) had earned her Neuter Championship! Well done to owners S Chouffot and G Brassington of Caleebra Kennels!

Emmi becomes and Australian Grand Champion
And another!!!! Who would have guessed that just a week after Louis had done the same, we would be celebrating another Australian Grand Champion, this time with my beautiful Emmi (Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD JD PT (Imp Fnl)) earning the accolade!
It has literally been neck and neck between Louis and Emmi in recent months, with only a recent Best in Group nudging him ahead. I thought Emmi would be a few weeks away yet, but on Tuesday at the Sunbury Canine Club, she pulled out all of the stops and was an absolute star for me, earning a lovely 20 point best of breed.
That gave her just 6 points to earn which we thought she should earn today at the Echuca A&P Society, but she decided to really make sure, beating Louis for Best of Breed as well.
So incredibly proud and thankful for this very very stunning girl who has dominated the Lappie females in Australia for such a long time, and notably whose most significant wins have regularly been when under Finnish judges (including a runner up in group at Perth Royal, and a shortlisting in group at Melbourne Royal). I am truly so very lucky to have her!

Louis becomes an Australian Grand Champion
Today was a very special one with Louis (Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN HT (Imp USA)) finally earning those last few points to become an Australian Grand Champion!! We are very very proud of our beautiful boy and how well he has done in the show ring, and couldn't be more pleased to put this thoroughly deserved title on him.
He finished in nice style, yesterday being awarded Runner up in Group at the Albury Show Society Championship under NSW judge Mrs B Skilton.
It was a nice weekend all round, with Lahti (Ch Armahani Amethyst Apina) also earning Neuter in Group at both shows, and a lovely time spent with show friends enjoying the spring sunshine and the necessary glasses of champagne.
And then the news came through that on the same day Louis had earned his grand championship, his daughter Pink (Janoby Frilly Nickers) earned her championship with a nice large best of breed. This girl has done massively well, with a number of big wins making up her championship.
And from Queensland, where another daughter, our home bred Myrre (Armahani Crystal Ciegus JD) was in her first obedience trial, earning first place in her ring and her first CD pass with a score of 185. Well done to owners Anne and Janne!!
So it really was a special Louis weekend. We've lost track a little of his various kids' wins over the last few weeks but I know there have been multiple numbers of class in groups wins across the country for Pink, Ismo (Theldaroy French Encounter), Quinn (Ch Kalevi Cheri Flora), Anikka (Ch Kalevi Cheri Blossom) and Scandal (Theldaroy French Scandal).

Neuter in Groups for mother and daughter team Lahti and Mischa
It isn't often we get to compete in shows where the neuter class is on offer, so it was a nice occasion to bring out Lahti (Ch Armahani Amethyst Apina) again. Lahti is the mother of our Bloodstone litter and now enjoys a life of retirement with the Field family, but we still get to bring her out on occasion and this weekend it was at the Southern Cross Kennel Club.
We were very proud on Friday night when she was awarded Best Neuter in Group under judge P Tjerkstra from Queensland.
But it was extra special to hear from NSW, where her daughter Mischa (Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bilaidit), proudly owned by S Chouffot and G Brassington of Caleebra Kennels also earned Neuter in Group, not once but twice over the weekend.
Go the neuter girls!

Veikko becomes and Australian Champion
We had some really exciting news today from NSW, where out latest little girl Veikko (Armahani Diamond Dansut (AI)), proudly co-owned and handled by Shell Gurney, earned the final points she needed to become an Australian Champion.
The crazy Veikko, aka Squiggle, is the first of her litter to earn her conformation title, and for her it is hopefully the first of a few titles, with plans now underway to slow things down in the show ring and concentrating on her performance training.
Congratulations Shell and Veikko!!

Louis goes BEST IN SHOW!
An absolutely thrilling day today with Louis (Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN HT (Imp USA)) taking out his first Best in Show!!! This is only the second time a Lapphund has won a BIS at an all breed championship show in Australia, so it was a significant day both for ourselves and the breed generally.
It happened at the Kerang A&P Society Championship Show, with Best in Group and Open in Group being awarded to Louis by Victorian judge Ms D Saltau, followed by Best in Show and Open in Show by NSW judge Miss B Daines.
We couldn't be more thrilled or proud of our handsome young man, and how amazingly well he has done over the last couple of years. He truly is a star, and I can't thank his breeder enough for letting him come to be my baby boy!
Louis' win was followed by a Minor Puppy in Group for Veikko (Armahani Diamond Dansut (AI)) and a Neuter in Group for Mischa (Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bilaidit) on Friday night in NSW - so it certainly was a special weekend for us here at Armahani!

Tahvo's first major in the USA
Overnight we had some exciting news with Tahvo (Armahani Diamond Davvenasti (AI)) being awarded his first “major” in the USA show ring. Under the American Kennel Club rules, the 15 points required to make up an American Champion must include two major wins of 3 points or more.
Tahvo now has 10 points toward his title, with the first of those majors under his collar. We are pretty astounded at just how well this little man is going, at only 7 months of age, against some seriously nice competition.
Congratulations to Kathy, Gene and Linda – hope the fun times with my precious boy just keep coming.

Armahani at the Melbourne Royal
Another Royal, this time in our home base, with the excitement of what used to be our biggest Lappie entry of the year, but now having to settle for second best now we have specialties to attend!
As well as Louis and Emmi, I had the cheeky Veikko (Armahani Diamond Dansut) down to show. I’m not sure I did such a good job with her, but we had a fun time catching up at least, and our judge seemed suitably amused with our attempts! So a happy experience all up. Also from Armahani were Ahti (Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bihci HT), shown by Mel, and Kyla (Armahani Crystal Cearpmat), making her Royal debut with Michelle.
It was again time for Louis and Emmi to continue the bridesmaid status, with them both being awarded the reserve challenges under Canadian judge Dr J Reeve-Newson. Congratulations this time to Cassie for DCC winner and BOB Ch Ausvarg Dragonvalcore, handled by Cam, and once again to puppy Janoby Frilly Nickers for the BCC and RUBOB, as always beautifully handled by Robyn. Just thrilled at how this youngster is doing.
My highlight would have to have been Ahti’s win in the Intermediate Dog Class against some stiff competition. There were definitely tears of pride and a big hug for Mel as she came out of the ring with this boy who is just maturing so beautifully at the moment.
It was a great day all round, catching up with friends, and also taking turns on the Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria’s breed stand during the day. Certainly their turn on the stand being cuddled by an adoring public were Louis and Emmi’s highlight of the day.

Armahani at the Adelaide Royal
We took the long trek to Adelaide over the last few days to show at the Adelaide Royal yesterday. It’s a been a few years since we made the trip, and although the encouragement of a Finnish judge turned out not to be realised when there needed to be a last minute judge substitution, it was still a great opportunity to meet up with friends and family.
It was just Louis and Emmi on the trip with me, making it a lovely and relaxing Royal with just the two dogs to show. So I thought. Emmi timed her season really well to be finished just before Royal season, but Louis wasn’t convinced, and keeping him in the ring yesterday and not plunging through the barriers to her was a bit of a challenge!
It was also my first chance to see how the lovely Theldaroy French Encounter, Louis’ young son, currently campaigned in SA by Jeff Tassell and Jill Smith, who I hadn’t seen since our specialty in June.
In the ring, our showing wasn’t too shabby, with Louis and Emmi both taking their respective reserve challenges under Irish judge Mr J Muldoon. A big congratulations to Sarah with DCC winner and BOB Ch Articmal Dynamic Illusion HT “Taavi”, and to Robyn with BCC winner and RUBOB from the puppy class, Louis’ little girl Janoby Filly Nickers “Pink” who we are particularly proud of.
Before heading home today, we got to have a lovely visit at Finnesse Kennels and admire their gorgeous babies, before Kellie arrived with our beautiful Cookie (Armahani Crystal Ceahppi) for us to see for the first time since she left home at 8 weeks of age! What a stunner this little mistletoe has turned out to be, with a cheekiness that couldn’t possibly be inherited!!! We had a very interesting time trying to take a few photos of her with her parents Louis and Emmi!

Louis and Kulta earn their Rally Novice titles
Today we did something completely different, entering our first Rally-O trials at the Geelong Obedience Club's triple trial. Rally, although common in other parts of the world, is only a new sport in Australia this year, and this is the first opportunity we've had to compete. Louis and Emmi have had a few practice runs at our local club so their handler knows what to do!! But when Emmi came into season, and Kulta was here visiting while she is on holiday, I decided to enter him as well to see if the old man still has it!
I was thrilled to pieces with how both boys went. Louis improved throughout the day. His first trial I felt he was just a little bit too distracted and overwhelmed, but he did manage a nice score of 94/100. His second he was clearly warming up and got a score of 95/100 and a 3rd place in his ring. And then for the last trial of the day, and definitely the one that had me the most nervous that I was going to make mistakes for us, given it was more complex than the two before, he just shone! It felt beautiful all the way around and I knew coming out the ring he had done a great job, but I was thrilled to see his score of 98/100 which gave him 1st place in his ring.
Kulta was just amazing! He's never been my great performance dog, much preferring his position on the couch, but he just brought it today. He did nicely in his first trial with a score of 96/100 and a 3rd place. His second he seemed to be a bit over it, but still pulled it together for a nice 92/100. So I was a bit worried coming into the third trial that his short time of being prepared to work with me would be long over, but he seriously kicked it up another notch. I've never had such beautiful work from Kulta in any ring, and I had a huge grin on my face as we hit that last station. He ended with a 95/100 and another 3rd place.
So very proud that Louis will now be Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA) and Kulta will now be Ch Theldaroy Best Treasure CCD RN HT!

Louis earns Best in Group
Well I suspect that Louis (Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD PT (Imp USA)) has decided enough is enough with all this attention on his kids during the weeks of late, and it is his turn for a bit of the accolades!
We spent the weekend showing at the Hamilton Kennel Club. Emmi is at my parent's place while in season, so Kulta came along to keep us company. Today Louis has his moment in the sunlight earning Best in Group and Open in Group under Queensland judge Mrs J McCann.
It had been a quiet few weeks for us so I was very thrilled with this win, and so thankful for all the congratulations from our fellow group 5 exhbitors!
Of course, his kids just can't give him a break! Because in another part of the State six month old Pink (Janoby Frilly Nickers) earned herself another three good sized Best of Breeds against competitive adult competition and followed it up with a Minor Puppy in Group today. Congratulations to Robyn, Wayne and Sue.
We also had some good health news over the week, with Blaez (Armahani Bloodstone Bajann) passing his eye exam.

Tahvo's turn to shine in America
After the success of Lumi and Veikko last week, this time it was their brother Tahvo's (Armahani Diamond Davvenasti) turn to show them how it is done! Turning 6 months of age half way through the week he finally is eligible to have some fun with his owners in the American Kennel Club show ring!
On Friday he made me very proud earning Reserve Winner's Dog, and following that up with a Best of Breed and 2nd Puppy in Group in a fun match. But Saturday he did one better, with his first Best of Winners out of an entry of five for his first 2 points toward he championship, following it up with a 3rd Puppy in Group!
Today he did it again, with another Best of Winners!
I'm so very proud of this lovely boy and so pleased that he is adored so much by his owners Linda, Steven, Gene and Kathy! Even if that will make it rather tricky to steal him back :-D!
Louis' kid from Theldaroy Kennels continue their winning ways, with Scandal (Theldaroy French Scandal) earning the bitch challenge at the Queensland Royal Show over the week, and her brother Ismo (Theldaroy French Encounter) earning two Minor Puppy in Groups over the weekend! Congratulations to Ros and Col, Jeff and Jill.

Lumi and Veikko shine in their last shows as babies
Over the last week both Lumi and Veikko have had their final shows as baby puppies, and did they do it in style!
On Saturday Lumi (Armahani Diamond Davvir) showed at the Murray Valley Kennel Club, gaining third place in the Baby Puppy Sweepstakes under New Zealand judge Mr B Harris.
Then on Monday and Tuesday, Veikko (Armahani Diamond Dansut) was showing at the Tullamore PA & H Society, earning second place in the Baby Puppy Sweepstakes both days under New South Wales judges Mr L Butler and Mrs S McMahon.
She followed it up today with her first show in Minor Puppy, earning a Best of Breed and her first challenge points toward her championship title.
Happy 6 month birthday to our beautiful diamonds!
And more congratulations to Louis babies across the country, with Pink (Janoby Frilly Nickers) earning a very impressive BOB at her first show in minor puppy, and a Minor Puppy in Group here in Melbourne on the weekend (congratulations to Robyn, Wayne and Sue) and yesterday at the Queensland Royal Show, Scandal (Theldaroy French Scandal) being awarded the bitch challenge (congratulations Ros and Col).

Lumi earns Baby Puppy in Group and second in Baby Puppy Sweepstakes
Great news from New South Wales yesterday, with Lumi (Armahani Diamond Davvir) attending his first all breeds championship show at the Wagga Wagga All Breeds Kennel Club.
There he not only earned Best Baby Puppy in Group under judge Rev C Seymour, but also was placed second in a large baby puppy sweepstakes under Victorian judge Ms M Joyce.
We're very proud of both Lumi and co-owner/handler Bianca, and hope he continues to shine in both the show and obedience arena!
Today Lumi's sister Veikko (Armahani Diamond Dansut) was showing in Sydney under Swedish judge Mr D Ericsson. We were really pleased to hear that under a Scandinavian judge, she was one of three baby puppies who gained a second look for the baby puppy in group award, and although she didn't claim that award this time around, we were even more thrilled to hear Mr Ericsson's feedback afterward, noting her beautiful head and expression, nice front and great type, and labelling her as a "very promising" puppy.
It seems the special mention to Louis' kids continue, with last weekend Ismo (Theldaroy French Encounter) earning another Baby Puppy in Group in South Australia, and in Queensland this weekend his sister Scandal (Theldaroy French Scandal) earning two Minor Puppy in Groups and a Minor Puppy in Show in her first week up in the minor puppy class. Congratulations again to Jeff, Jill, Ros and Col.

Back to back Runner up Best in Groups for Louis and Myrre earns her JD title
The excitement came from all over the country it seemed this weekend!
For ourselves, we spent a lovely time up in Wentworth, NSW, just out of Mildura, and the ground where I exhibited in my very first show almost 10 years ago now! It was wonderful to catch up with old friends, as well as spend time with others also up from Melbourne. Louis did me proud yet again, gaining back to back Runner Up Best in Groups, firstly on Saturday under judge Mrs L Black (Vic) and then on Sunday under judge Mr W Mooney (Vic).
While that was special enough, there was more excitement to come, when I got the message on Saturday that his and Emmi's daughter Myrre (Armahani Crystal Ciegus) had attended her first ANKC agility trial on the Gold Coast, and had come away having won first place in the Novice Jumping ring for two of her rounds, and second place for the other two, and most importantly had earned her Jumping Dog (JD) title! I couldn't be more thrilled! Myrre (the puppy previously known as "the nutter") has always been destined to do great things in the performance arena, and I am so proud of her and owner Anne Ahola. As a breeder who also trains for performance as well as enjoying the show ring, I know just how much work goes into those performance titles, and seeing my babies achieve such feats gives me the greatest buzz!! I'm sure more is to come for Myrre and Anne.
Of course, special mention also has to go to a couple of Louis' other daughters from other kennels doing wonderful things over the weekend, with Anikka (Kalevi Cheri Blossom) going Best Puppy in Group in Perth on Friday and Quinn (Kalevi Cheri Flora) doing the same in Melbourne on Saturday! Congratulations to breeders Sarah and David Ewenson as well as owners Lauren and Darren (Anikka) and Mel and James (Quinn).

Veikko earns third in Baby Puppy Sweepstakes
Some lovely news from interstate today. We've been taking a break from most activites over the last few weeks, but that hasn't stopped others out there and making us proud!
In NSW this morning, our precious baby girl Veikko (Armahani Diamond Dansut), who is co-owned, loved and handled by Shell Gurney, was awarded third place in a Baby Puppy Sweepstakes at the Moree Kennel Club Championship Show, under judge Mrs M Hickie (NSW).
Veikko is a rather naughty princess, just how Shell likes them :-), who is being prepared for a world of fun dogs sports, but who does struggle to keep all four paws on the ground while in the show ring, so we are very very proud of her achievements today.
I just can't wait to see all this little girl and Shell will achieve together!
And special mention must also go to Louis' young son, Ismo (Theldaroy French Encounter), showing in SA with Jeff Tassell aand Jill Smith, who today eaned Baby Puppy in Group. Congratulations to Jess, Jill and Ismo's breeders Ros and Col Seare. I'm so excited to see the Louis kids do so well!

Fist Australian Finnish Lapphund Championship Specialty show
We had an incredible weekend, with the Finnish Lapphund Club of Victoria holding the inaugural Finnish Lapphund Specialty Championship show today. It was matched with a big weekend of events for all of our members and interstate visitors, with the Working Dog Club of Victoria Championship Show on Saturday followed by our club's trivia night. Then both our show and the Victorian Spitz Breeds Club's Championship today, followed by our award ceremony and dinner. It may take some time to catch up on sleep!
But what a fantastic time it was, with friends arriving from all over Australia to take part in this momentous occasion.
In the show ring, the performance of our own babies wasn't too shabby! First up at Saturday's show under Ms G Alexander (Vic) with a Lappie entry of 32, Louis (Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD PT (Imp USA)) was Best of Breed, and Emmi (Ch Lumiturpa Emmi (Imp Fnl)) Runner up of Breed. I was pretty stunned by Emmi's performance because she is still very bald after having the diamonds and normally wouldn't be shown except that it was such a special occasion. We were also thrilled to see little Lumi (Armahani Diamond Davvir) out for his first show and winning his class against two other spectacular baby boys, only losing to one of Louis' daughters, Janoby Frilly Nickers, for Baby of Breed.
At Monday's Spitz Show, under judge J Oates (Vic) with a Lappie entry of 65 Emmi again won Runner Up Best of Breed, to a lovely male from NSW, Ch Ausvarg Dragonvalcore. I was also very proud to handle Taija (Ch Armahani Crystal Cuovgat) to first in the Intermediate Bitch class of 9 lovely girls, and Kulta (Ch Theldaroy Best Treasure CCD HT) out of retirement for the day taking third place in the Australian Bred Dog class - behind the eventual BOB winner. But the star had to be Lahti (Ch Armahani Amethyst Apina) who won Neuter of Breed and then went on to win Best Neuter in Show!
Then it was the big one. An entry of 81 Lappies under judge Ms M Martin (Vic). I am very proud that all five of my dogs that I handled won their class - Louis, Kulta, Taija, Emmi and Lahti. Louis went on to win Reserve Dog Challenge behind a lovely SA boy, Kalevi Blessed in Wonder (who went on to win Best in Show), and later was Runner Up Best in Show! Emmi was the Reserve Bitch Challenge behind one of Louis' beautiful daughters from the Puppy Class, Kalevi Cheri Blossom from WA, who had been reserve to her in the last two shows. Taija was 1st Intermediate Bitch in our largest class entry (11), and Best Opposite Intermediate in Show to the BIS winner. Kulta was Best Veteran in Show. Lahti was Best Opposite Neuter in Show in another large entry (6).
We were also very proud of how some of our other Armahani babies went with Lumi going Best Opposite Baby in Show, Ahti (Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bihci HT) winning 2nd place in the competitive State Bred Dog class, and Mischa (Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bilaidit) winning 3rd place in the Neuter Bitch class.
To finish things off in fine style, in the property classes, Emmi then went on to win Best Headed Bitch, under judge Ms C Evans.

Taija earns her Championship and Louis is Runner up in Group
After a very long break , we were back in the show ring today, having a lovely day at the Seymour and District Kennel Club Championship show with a lovely group of Lappie enthusiasts.
Just the company of good friends would have made it a wonderful return in itself, but the first excitement of the day came when Taija (Armahani Crystal Cuovgat) earned the bitch challenge under NSW judge Mr A Hunt, and along with it the final points she needed to become an Australian Champion.
Not to be outdone by his daughter on his return to the ring, Louis (Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD PT (Imp USA)). who earned the Best of Breed, went on to be awarded Runner Up to Best in Group. Louis is having a cracker of a show year, even with the very few shows I've been able to get him to!
We have very special plans for Taija's first litter later in the year, but in the meantime her sister Kyla (Armahani Crystal Cearpmat) came into season yesterday, so we start the journey toward the Emerald litter very soon. See the Future Treasure page for more information.

We say goodbye to Tahvo (Winston)
With a great deal of tears, over the last few days we have said goodbye to our precious precious Tahvo - known as Winston while all of the diamonds were here. Tahvo has been staying a few extra weeks while he grew old enough to make an overseas trip. Of course, there is always the risk that having a puppy here that extra bit longer will make the tug on the heartstrings a little bit more painful. But I don't think I realised quite how much I would fall in love with this character. A stunning, beautiful boy, with the most cheeky, delightful temperament, I just absolutely adore him.
Tahvo has gone to Memphis, USA to be owned by Linda Marden of Sugarok Kennels, Kathy Knapp and Gene Haynes. Linda was here for almost a week, spending some time with Tahvo before taking him home, along with Alaska (Ch Teelikamentten Iiika) who has also gone to the USA to live.
Linda and I dropped off Tahvo and Alaska at Jetpets on Wednesday morning for their final vet clearances. Those goodbyes are always the very hardest, and it was certainly an emotional farewell. They stayed overnight before being dropped off at cargo for their flight yesterday morning, while Linda left via the normal method :-). It was overnight that we received the messages that they had arrived safely in LA and transited onto their flight home to Memphis.
By morning (early evening there) they had finished their journey, with Kathy and Gene there to meet them at the airport. I was so relieved and pleased to hear that Tahvo had traveled will, unfazed by such a long journey and his normal cheeky self.
We wish Kathy, Gene and Linda all the best with their new baby, and are so looking forward to hearing all his news and seeing photos of him as he grows.
There will now always be a special part of my heart in Memphis!

We say goodbye to Lumi (Cartier)
More goodbyes! This time is was our big boy Cartier's turn, who is now known as Lumi. Clive and Bianca Ralphs, of Polarpaws Kennel, arrived from the Albury/Wodonga region about lunch time today to whisk my little boy away. Like Shell, they have been waiting a number of years for this litter, and Lumi goes to enjoy a life of showing and obedience with the Aussies and a Malamute friend.
Cartier, or Armahani Diamond Davvir (treasure), is quite the striking young man, with a playful and slightly naughty temperament. Very fun loving, and full of happiness, I'm sure he will bring his new owners plenty of joy. Like Veikko, Lumi remains co-owned with me, and given we make the occasional show up his way, I'm looking forward to being able to cheer him on in the ring.
That just leaves us with little Winston (now known as Tahvo), who will be here for a few more weeks before his new owner picks him up.

We say goodbye to Viekko (Tiffany)
The goodbye's started today with the first of our Diamonds heading to their new homes.
Little Tiffany, now to be known as Veikko, is heading off to Sydney to live with Shell Gurney and Zero the Siberian Husky. Shell has been waiting a very long time for this little girl, and Veikko will be hitting the show ring as well as training in a full range of different dog sports. She remains co-owned with me, and hopefully when she is old enough to have babies of her own she will come back to visit for a short while.
Veikko, or Armahani Diamond Dansut (to dance), is quite the gorgeous and feminine little girl, with the cheeky attitude of her mum. I think she is going to give Shell lots and lots of fun, and we can't wait to see her grow and develop and share in the excitement of all of her achievements.
Good luck little Veikko!

Ahti becomes our latest Australian Champion
Some thrilling news today with our cream boy Ahti earning the final challenge he needed to become an Australian Champion! Soon Ahti will be known as Ch Armahani Bloodstone Bihci HT!
Ahti is also the first Armahani pup to have titles on either end of his name, having earning his Herding Tested title in 2011.
We are very proud of him, and of his co-owners (and handler) Mel Scriven and James Mauger, who could never have guessed the journey they were about to go on when they took their little puppy boy home a couple of years ago.
Ahti will be shown a bit more lightly now he is titled, and will be concentrating further on his herding endeavors!

Our Diamond babies arrive
It is with a great deal of excitement that we welcome the birth of our Diamond litter today. Three little babies were born to Emmi (Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD JD HT (Imp Fnl)) this morning - two boys and one precious girl.
The sire of this litter is the late Ressi (Fin Ch and Fin Working Trial Ch Lecibsin Kultakuono), whose frozen semen we have had here for a while, waiting for the right moment for Emmi's final litter.
It has been quite an adventure getting here, and with such precious treasure on board, we weren't taking any chances, so when Emmi passed her due date, on veterinary advice we decided to take her in for an elective c-section. She has recovered well, and has taken to motherhood instantly again!
The Diamond litter can be seen on our Current Treasure page, or for more news and photos you can check out their blog HERE. At this stage they are all spoken for.

Runner up in Group for Louis
Our last show for a little while, given we will be busy with babies of our own soon, and this one local at the Ballarat Dog Club Championship Show.
It was a very civilised start to the day, with the show commencing at lunch time, and with only Louis to be shown, it was nice and easy to just get ready at home, and nip across to Ballarat with only a few pieces of gear. Completely different to my normal very early starts with numerous dogs and pieces of equipment!!
But despite such a casual attitude, Louis still did me proud, picking up Runner Up Best in Group under judge Mrs J Campbell (Vic).
He just continues to do me proud!

Louis babies born at Theldaroy
Louis is a daddy again with the birth of five puppies at Theldaroy Kennels to the beautiful Whisper, aka Ch Theldaroy NVus Whispers (AI).
This turned out to be a similar pattern to his last litter, with five pups: one black and tan boy, two black and tan girls, and two girls of another colour, this time some beautiful brown and tan darlings.
It is always interesting to discover what recessive colours are hiding behind our Lappies, and while I knew Louis had a 50/50 chance of carrying brown, I was never sure until now. I'm looking forward to seeing photos of all of these babies as they grow and develop.
For information about this litter, please contact Theldaroy Kennels directly.

Our father/daughter show team have a great weekend
It was an enormous show weekend in Benalla, as well as a very very hot one, with Louis and his daughter Taija (Armahani Crystal Cuovgat) being shown from Friday through to Sunday. We camped out for the weekend, which is always fun, and braved the heat for three days of showing.
It started on Friday at the Benalla Kennel Club Championship Show with Taija going Intermediate in Group under NSW judge Mrs D Besoff. This was followed on Saturday, also at the Benalla Kennel Club Championship Show, with a Best in Group and Open in Group for Louis under NSW judge Mr R Besoff. Then on Sunday Louis did it again with Best in Group and Open in Group at the Yarrawonga/Mulwala & Border Kennel Club Championship Show under NSW judge Mr D Strachan.
A brilliant weekend!

Louis babies born at Janoby
Louis is a daddy again with the birth of five precious puppies at Janoby Kennels to their girl Ch Janoby All About Aura.
In typical Louis style, there are more girls (four) than boys (just the one). And there are also more little cream Louis babies in the world with two of the girls being cream. The rest of the babies are black and tan like their parents.
Mum and bubs are all doing well. Can't wait to see them grow.
I believe there may be a couple of puppies unallocated at this stage, so if you are interested please contact Janoby Kennels directly

Runner up in Group for Louis at our first show for the year
We started our show year with a bang today at the Central Gippsland Kennel Club Championship Show, despite the rather dubious looking weather. I was showing Louis (Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD PT (Imp USA)), Taija (Armahani Crystal Cuovgot) and Lahti (Ch Armahani Amethyst Apina) today, and all did me proud.
Louis was Dog Challenge and Best of Breed, Taija earned the Bitch Challenge, getting her a step closer to her title, and Lahti earned more points toward her Neuter Championship. But it was Louis' day, then going Runner Up to Best in Group (Group 2nd) and Open in Group under judge Mr R Bridgeford (Vic).
A lovely start for our first show of the year!

Happy New Year
A very happy new year from all of us at Armahani! Louis and I spent a fabulous start to the new year, camping out at Double K Herding for a couple of days of herding fun. He hasn't been out herding since earning his PT title in September, so it was good to see he wasn't too rusty and had an absolute ball back with the sheep again. To add to the fun, we had our first go with the cattle, which was fairly nerve wracking for me, but something we hope to do more of in 2012. I was pretty thrilled with how Louis went with them - a bit tentative (although that might have been those annoying flies!) but managing to remain calm as he worked them (although, again that might have been because of the flies LOL).
2011 was an amazing year for us, with a whirlwind of achievements!
It was definitely Louis' (Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD HT (Imp USA)) year. In the show ring he earned five Runner Up in Groups (Group 2nds), five Best in Groups (Group 1sts) and two RUNNER UP IN SHOWS (BIS 2). Although the final tally is still to be done, he ends the year on the DOL Pointscore as the National Breed Leader for both the Best of Breed and All Breeds competitions, and in 5th place for the Working Dog Group in our State of Victoria.
But just to show he is not a one dimensional achiever, he shone in other arenas as well. In the herding ring he earned his HT and then his PT titles. And in obedience he earned his CCD title with a 2nd place and a 3rd place in ring, and then his CD title with a 1st, 2nd and 4th place in ring. He has only just started trialing in agility, but we hope to do more in 2012. He also took a momentary pause to sire a litter for Kalevi Kennels, with little baby girl Kalevi Cheri Blossom being an amazing ambassador in Western Australia with five Best Baby in Group awards and a Best Baby in Show at her first five shows in late 2011.
Not to be outdone, Emmi (Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD JD HT (Imp Fnl)) has also has a huge year. In the show ring she also earned a Best in Group, and was the Best of Breed winner at both the Melbourne and Perth Royals this year, including being one of the shortlisted group finalists at the Melbourne Royal under a Finnish/Swedish judge. She ends the year on the DOL Pointscore as the highest scoring bitch (and 3rd overall) on the Best of Breed competition, and would have come very close to piping Louis off his post if it hasn't been for sharing a few points with her daughter over the year.
In the herding ring she earned her HT title. In obedience she earned her CCD with two 1st places and a 4th place. And she hit the agility ring, earning her JD title all with 2nd places in ring. What a star my beautiful girl is!
For those who don't get out as much as they used to, it was also a successful year, with Alaska (Ch Teelikamentten Iikka (Imp Fnl)) earning Dog Challenge and Runner Up Best of Breed at the Melbourne Royal, and our beautiful "old boy" Kulta (Ch Theldaroy Best Treasure CCD HT), who normally lives our his retirement on my parents' couch, winning his class (Australian Bred Dog) at both of his two outings for the year, the Melbourne Royal, where he was also Reserve Dog Challenge, and the FLCV Open Show.
We are also very proud of the Armahani babies. Mischa (Ch Armahani Bloodsone Bilaidit) earned her conformation championship, while her brother Ahti (Armahani Bloodstone Bihci HT) earned his HT title in the herding ring. Classes in group were earned by Taija (Armahani Crystal Cuovgat) and Lahti (Ch Armahani Amethyst Apina). While Kyla (Armahani Crystal Cearpmat) qualified as a Delta Therapy Dog. We can't wait to see what our babies do in 2012 and with three of them close to their conformation championships, the race is on!
While we have lots of hopes and dreams for 2012, we are hopeful that there will also be the pitter patter of tiny paws during the year. Stay tuned!
