There has never been any questions that my foundation bitch Emmi (Grand Ch Lumiturpa Emmi CCD RA HT (Imp Fin)) simply astounds me with her type and quality. While I would never declare any of my dogs "perfect" there is a lot about her that fits my ideal for a Finnish Lapphund.
It was when Emmi was pregnant with her third and final litter that I faced the reality of the end of my opportunities to breed with her, and the lack of any way of bringing her line "back" generations down the track, and option I can keep with my boys by freezing semen. I've long been a fan of Emmi's very successful brother Eppu, and it was with this in mind that I email his owner Johanna (who also raised Emmi from birth) and asked her what she thought about me collecting from him so I could bring the line back in when I needed to. She promptly reponsed with "I love that idea". I wasn't in a great rush at the time, so you can imagine my surprise (and momentary panic given the complexity of Australia's import laws) when Johanna emailed a few weeks later to say the deed had been done. Completely organised, and having done this for me before, all the requirements had been met, and everything was ok for shipping. Eppu is a fabulous boy, similar in type and expression to Emmi, and with a delightful and amusing temperament, almost as cheeky as his sister. He has been one of the most successful Lapphunds in Finland of his generation. It will be a great joy to one day have Eppu puppies here in Australia. I can never thank Johanna enough for giving me my precious Emmi, and now enabling me to stregthen that influence over my future breeding with the handsome Eppu. |
