Keila was my shock value puppy. Although part of me was just "oh yeah, another surprise!" after having had the surprise of the three cream babies in the Bloodstone litter, I at least had been able to explain them, and was 100% sure that the cream on Lahti's side had come from Kulta. There was no way in my mind Emmi carried any of the recissive colours. How wrong was I. But wow, when she did it, she did it really well. Keila quickly grew into the most scrumptious little Lappie, with the fluffiest coat and cuteness just pouring out of her paws. I left it a long time to decide where she should go. She was just so lovely and had the most precious little soul, that I really wanted someone who wanted her for her, rather than someone who was really set on a black and tan pup but was willing to "make do". So when Michelle completely fell head over heels in love with her, and knowing what a perfect and wonderful home she could offer for this madam, I was glad I had held back. Although I'd only planned on keeping two pups from the litter in co-ownership, I decided it was well worth keeping this little one as well.
She was such a beautiful little girl from very early on. With the fluffiest most gorgeous coat, she certainly caught the eye. As she grew it quickly became obvious that she was going to of a lovely type, beautifully angulated, nice low hocks, correct proportions in body, and the sweetest expression. A friend overseas once said to me that when a cream Lappie is only average it tends to be more obvious, but when they are extra special it is also more obvious. I am confidently hopeful that she will fall into the latter category.
The additional quality of Keila, that makes her extra special, is her most divine temperament. I've never had a pup quite like her. Not remotely shy or fearful, extraordinarily stable, adorably playful, always happy, and at the same time the most gentle, loving girl you coud imagine. It is like she has the most special soul, that just speaks to you at the deepest level. She looks at you and tears just well up, because somehow she just knows you. Michelle's plan, to have a companion who could become a Delta dog, is somehow destined for her.
Keila's dam is, of course, my beautiful import girl Emmi (Aus Ch Lumiturpa Emmi (Imp Fnl)), a rather famous girl amongst western circles in the Lappie community. She is of very successful, typey lines in Finland, is a stunning representation of her breed, and has had a lot of success in the ring here in Australia. She is a strong and confident bitch, with a real streak of naughtiness, and is hugely affectionate (particularly toward men, the little hussy!). Keila is from her second litter.
Her sire is my import boy Louis (Aus Ch C'est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg (Imp USA)) who is actually of French birth, but was raised for me in the USA, and who has some of my favourite Lappies behind him. Despite the limited campaigning I do, he has also had quite a lot of success in the show ring, and has quite a few fans who have recognised his type and quality. He is a very funny, active boy with lots of drive, who is affectionately called "Loony-Louis" a lot of the time - my Peter Pan dog who I never expect to be more than a puppy. Keila is from his first litter.
We wish Michelle all the best with the new love of her life, and in all the pursuits they undertake together.
